Sammy’s Open Heart Surgery
It started as a normal pregnancy, but we quickly found out it was far from our norms. When katy was 10 weeks pregnant, she was told she was in danger of a possible abortion due to complications.
At 20 weeks, after confirming she was expecting a baby boy, they noticed something that alarmed the ultrasound tech. Baby’s heart didn’t seem right. Katy was referred to a number of different specialists hours away from home to follow up with many ultrasounds and consults. Samuel was diagnosed with “TOF” Tetralogy of Fallot and Pulmonary Stenosis. Katy had many follow ups after that and doctors said the best thing was to keep that baby in her whomb and to make him grow big (bigger than 6 pounds) and strong!
Unfortunately she didn’t make it full term. Katy’s water broke and Samuel was ready to come at 36 weeks. Katy was quickly airlifted to phoenix and little Samuel was born 19 hours later. He gave his first half breath on March 5th, 2021. FOUR weeks ahead! And a lot smaller than what the doctors wanted.
Quickly after birth he was taken by a team of 7 NICU personnel to intubate him, poke him and try everything to bring his oxygen levels up and get him breathing. It was hard for us as Samuel was born and immediately taken away to be put on machines after machines and us not being able to hold him.
Our little Samuel is still at the hospital where he continues to fight and fight with all his might for a rapid and hopeful miracle!! Each day he shows us how strong he can be, but still has a ways to go.
With all the stress and treatment also comes bills and everyday necessities.
Katy is not working as she’s spending day after day with our little Sammy, she hasn’t even fully recovered from labor and has to be torn between being long hours at the hospital away from out little Vinny who is not allowed to be with us at the hospital.
The Ramos family wants to reach out and ask for some help and support to cover any and every expense we will have related to Sammy’s birth and hospitalization. From the helicopter transfer to phoenix, to the labor and Sammy’s stay in the ICU.
Our family and some friends have already reached out and blessed us but as the days add up with Samuel in the ICU, the bills also keep adding up faster than we can keep track of. If you feel in your heart to help us out, we would greatly appreciate it and from now we want to say thank you and God bless.
