I've been busy and have made some great progress. My expenses have gone way down because of a very generous donor who has graciously offered to cover my board and training expenses for my rescue horse! I am SO THANKFUL!!! If you haven't read my story before please read below. . .
My name is Jersie and I will be celebrated my Bat Mitzvah in December on Bainbridge Island, WA. As part of the Jewish tradition, we do a special Mitzvah project. A Mitzvah is a good deed (helping something or someone) or a charitable act. I have to raise the money first because my Mitzvah project goal is very large! As many of you know, horses are a BIG part of my life.
So, for my Mitzvah project, I'm raising money to rescue a horss who is going to slaughter in Mexico which is 10 times worse than Canada. I am hopeful to be rescuing my first horse. She is pictured in my campaign. This poor girl has been through so much and I just want to help her from the horrifying future she would have. I am a huge advocate of promoting the humane and responsible treatment of horses and all animals and properly euthanizing so they can rest peacefully. My Mom helped me share my concern with letters to the Senator, Governor and President Obama to share my thoughts on this horrific act.
The United States no longer allows horses to be slaughtered in our country so, why is it permissible for them to be shipped across our borders to the same gruesome future? PLEASE help me and this girl because she doesn't deserve this. After I help her recover and get better my next rescue will be a mare who is already pregnant because they keep the stallions and mares together. Many of these horses come from horrible cases of neglect and are abused and exploited before being scrapped for slaughter. Right now, they have 49 horses and 97 donkeys at the feed lots in Washington, Idaho & Texas. They ship out about 300 horses a month which is really devastating! Some of the feed lots and kill buyers involved in selling horses over our U.S. borders, are making over a million dollar a year.
The kill buyers fatten up the horses so they can make more money per pound of horse sold to slaughter (It's the same selling process as cows). Horses are not eaten in the USA but in foreign countries. They can ship across the border at any time! It's really awful!
I feel honored to be given the opportunity to rescue one of these horses and help get her back to good health. I will then aid in helping her find a new home . But in order to do this, I need your help! My goal is now only $6,625 (it was originally $18,000). This money will go straight to the care of this beautiful animal. Please feel free to donate any amount of money, every dollar counts!
If only 185 people donate $36, I will reach my goal!
If only 370 people donate $18, I will reach my goal!
If only 666 people donate $10, I will reach my goal!
If only 1,332 people donate $5, I will reach my goal!
THANK YOU to ALL THE GENEROUS PEOPLE who have already supported me in my Mitzvah project and to all of those who will first help me support these horses and their future. The first horse I wanted to save unfortunately was shipped for slaughter and many, many more have been shipped since then. I have cried many times over these horses and although this is really hard for me, I still feel the need to make a difference. It's devastating to see all of these beautiful animals lose their lives because someone did not care for them properly or wanted to make money from selling them to the kill buyers. So I am focused on rescuing this horse before this happens. If this does not happen then I will continue to raise the money and when I meet my goal, I will RESCUE the next horse in need and about to be doomed. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Any leftover money will go to CANTER. (The Communication Alliance to Rescue Thoroughbred Ex-Racehorses and Last Chance Corral.
