Help Save our Portland Small Business

For the past 11 months, we at Portland Fit Body Boot Camp have been doing everything in our means to get by.  Like all small businesses it’s been a struggle to keep our doors open (while being required to keep them shut for nearly 6 months).  Sadly, this week, just as we’ve been allowed to reopen to serve a very limited number of clients in person, the business took an unexpected blow.  On Friday night our facility in SE Portland was broken into, and thousands of dollars of equipment was stolen.

In normal times a break-in would be disheartening and certainly challenging, but in times like these, when our small business - like so many others - is hanging on by a thread, this latest event has pushed us to the edge.

We want to continue to serve the Portland community long after Covid is beyond us, but to get there, we need to ask for help.

Having the facility broken into and thousands of dollars of equipment stolen on the heels of having fought tooth and nail to survive during the pandemic is a massive blow and one that we cannot afford financially right now on top of $20,000 of back rent we've accumulated while we've prioritized allocating our limited income to keeping our amazing team employed and paid to serve our remaining clients.  While we have received PPP funding, it was quickly exhausted by not letting go of staff and covering partial to full rent for the past 11 months.  The relief from PPP helped us navigate the first shut down — yet it has not been enough to close the gap with our membership having dwindled to 50% of pre-covid numbers.

Having exhausted PPP and our entire business savings to keep afloat through this pandemic so far, there is no more cushion.  We are committed to not giving up, but we need help.  Just as we encourage our members to dig deep in every workout we have dug deep to survive this long and make it this far and we want to continue doing so but we need more resources.

Vaccine rollouts give us a lot of hope for the future, but first we need to make it to the other side.  We know that everywhere you turn right now, there are people, organizations and businesses that are worse off.  We know that it’s unfair to be asking the same people who *have* been supporting us through the whole pandemic to do even more.  But we’ve exhausted most of our options at this point, so here we are.  If you can afford to do so, if our continued presence in Portland matters to you, please consider donating.  We couldn’t have made it to this point without the overwhelming love, loyalty, and support we’ve received from our amazing community.  We would be beyond grateful to be able to continue to serve this community for many years to come.

Donations made to this fundraiser will be used to cover the replacement cost of the stolen equipment that is required to provide virtual services during this time the gym must remain mostly closed.  Funds raised above and beyond this need will be allocated at the discretion of Portland Fit Body Boot Camp where needed most to cover Portland Fit Body Boot Camp’s ongoing costs and expenses in an effort to help Portland Fit Body Boot Camp survive in order to continue to help changing lives in our local community through fitness for decades to come.

About us:

Portland Fit Body Boot Camp has been helping Portland residents achieve their fitness goals and live a healthier lifestyle for over a decade.  We are a gym that prides itself on community, creating a welcoming atmosphere for all regardless of fitness level or experience, and our mission is to be the best 40 minutes of our client's day.  Prior to Covid we were a thriving business and had no debt.

Over the past year, we have tried to weather this storm with endless pivoting, hard work, and perseverance, as we always have.  We have continued to service members through a combination of online and in-facility options every day since the pandemic began and done everything possible to keep our amazing team employed and to meet as many of our obligations as possible.

CONTRIBUTIONS OR GIFTS TO PORTLAND FIT BODY BOOT CAMP ARE NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE.   Any contributions received shall be considered gifts to Emily Johnson Fitness, Inc, (DBA: Portland Fit Body Boot Camp) which is a for profit corporation.  Contributors will not receive any goods or services in exchange for their gifts.
