Senior Lost Everything in Hurricane

Thank you so much to those of you near and far who have asked how you can help Nina during this very difficult time. For those of you who don't know, Nina, our beloved 75 year-old mom and grandma lost nearly everything in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. She lived in Dallas, Texas for over 15 years but decided to relocate to Houston after losing our dad, her husband, of 45 years to cancer. It was a difficult adjustment for her to downsize from her house to an apartment. She just recently started feeling comfortable in her new home when the storm hit. Her son in-law, Kim, was able to rescue her and her dog, Homer, before most of her first floor apartment in Kingwood was under water (pictured below). As many of you, Kingwood was one of the first areas to completely flood during Hurricane Harvey. 


Many of the residents of her apartment complex had to be rescued by Coast Guard helicopters. It's difficult to understand the impact of the situation and of losing nearly everything you own until you experience it first hand. Not only did she lose most of her belongings including her car and beloved cello, but she lost nearly 75 years of memories. Most of her art, collectors items from her travels, cards from her grand kids, gifts from our dad, her deceased husband, are gone. She is in need of assistance so she can buy some of the things she will need to start over. She did not want us to put this page together. She literally said she prefers to be the helper not the person asking for help. That's why we are asking for her. She is an incredible human and has given to so many people throughout her life.
