Help Morty Outrun Cancer

This is retired greyhound Striker Mortimer...lovingly renamed Morty.
I am Nicole, a devoted mom to this beautiful and sweet greyhound.

Myself and my parents have rescued a total of 4 greyhounds. Morty - my fur baby - needs to have surgery to have his leg amputated on 11/24/16 (two days before his birthday and one day before Thanksgiving)  to remove a tumor from his hind leg & then follow up with chemo. I have started a GoFundMe account to raise money to help pay for the large medical bills I will have.

Morty is my world - 7 yrs ago I had an ectopic pregnancy which resulted in a painful miscarriage. It left me with a huge hole in my heart as any women who's had a miscarriage, can relate too. One year later, Morty came into my life filling that void becoming my rainbow baby. I have celebrated many of my friends in their happy life changing events - weddings, babies, sprinkles, new homes - laying out large amounts of money toward gifts listed on registries, even hosting several of those celebration parties from my own limited funds. I've not been married. I have had no babies other than Morty. I've hit hard times recently where in the last 18mos I've twice lost my job setting me back financially and making it hard for me to obtain care credit. So it is with the outmost humility that I ask of you to find it in your hearts & make a charitable contribution to help me to continue to "celebrate" Morty's life a few years longer.

I'm choosing to go this route not to be selfish but because after examinations, xrays, and medical test he is all-in-all in good health and we are catching his cancer early so if any dog can beat this - he can! The surgeon confirmed Morty is not in pain which is a testament to his health and post op recovery potential; greyhounds have a lower threshold for pain so the fact he is not  showing signs of pain really says something and is a good sign.  Greyhounds are a large breed dog who generally have a long life expectancy so on the greyhound scale, he is not old yet. It's early, and Morty is still walking with all 4's (not perfectly only a slight limp that doesn't seem to phase him) - he still wants to run and do his happy "poopy dance" after he has a movement - weird, but adorable, and something he's known for. He's only taking pain meds as needed, which is maybe once a day if at all and when he needs one, at night which I suspect activities of the day get to him. So I am hopeful, as is my surgeon, that he will have a happy ending post surgery and chemo giving us more time together. I assure you if I felt he was  truly suffering I would not hang on just for me, but he is not suffering and wants to continue living and I refuse to not make that possible because of lack of funds.

We need your help. Please donate so Morty can outrun this cancer!

Morty has friends who are cheering this retired racer on as he readies himself to "outrun" cancer!

And his mommy who loves him with all her heart.....

With much gratitude and appreciation we thank you for any donation to help Morty Outrun Cancer :-)
