Mindy at a crossroads
"Mindy Is fighting from the ravages of autoimmune diseases, which is one of the top 10 leading causes of DEATH in middle-aged women.
Normally the most optimistic of people, Mindy feels she is standing at the most critical intersection of her life. One path leads to recovery and pain-free health. The other to continued suffering and death. In the past few weeks she’s been to the emergency room three times. She is unable to eat and so is being fed by intervenously until she is well enough to endure major in-hospital surgery to remove her diseased teeth. Her symptoms have worsened and she continues to lose weight. She is now suffering frequent severe nosebleeds on top of incessant intestinal, mouth and rheumatic pain and constant fatigue and weakness. Ironically, the worsening of her medical plight comes just as she begins comprehensive diagnosis and treatment in the care of a well-known physician specializing in severe autoimmune disorders. Until her toxic teeth can be removed, however, her treatment conceivably cannot proceed. So she remains in medical limbo, teetering between the dark, never-ending agony of the past several years and the bright light of well-being sitting squarely on the distant horizon.
Refused admittance by hospitals and insurance, and her condition worsening, she is receiving virtually all her treatment at home, including daily feeding and nursing visits, and bloodwork. Her regular weekly treatment expenses are in excess of $2000. Her doctor has kindly agreed to lower his fees, but his expenses, including laboratory workups, average another $1000 a week. Our living expenses to reside in another area for treatment is costing $800 weekly. Her only source of income at this moment is the generosity of friends, neighbors, family and donors to this site. Every donation right now is absolutely critical. Every donation brings the far horizon of recovery a little bit closer. “I know I’m not alone,” she says. “I know there are people who care enough to give me the help and the confidence to continue
We just found out late Friday we have an urgent office visit with her Dr. on Monday to review extensive labwork and other tests that were run over 6 weeks ago that should hopefully give us more answers and potential solutions to help her in her plight to endure her current medical state, give us options how to proceed to help her move forwards not backwards, and give Mindy the assurance she is now lacking that she is treatable and will recover! So we are hoping the Dr. will find a way to proceed with her very infected teeth as mentioned above all treatment was halted and just the feeding line was added. It could be a while before they can surgically remove everything in her mouth as it is a procedure that will have to be done in a hospital closely monitored as it will be done under general anesthetic.
Please take a minute. What Mindy is suffering from could happen to anyone. Autoimmune disease, even though for the most part neglected by the medical community, remains the third highest cause of death among middle-aged women. Please consider making a donation to Mindy, which will not only help ease her terrible financial burden, but will also make her feel less alone in this life-and-death struggle to regain her health.
We are hoping that at least some of our medical costs will be paid by government programs, but because autoimmune conditions are still so badly misunderstood by mainstream medicine, thus far the regulating agencies are reluctant to pay for her treatments. We are hoping the recently reopened federal insurance marketplace will offer her assistance, but even if all her medical bills are covered we still face extraordinary expenses for her travel, housing and uncovered medical, and some day we hope sooner then later, dental bills.
Armed with her own horrible experience and the knowledge she is not alone in her struggle, one of the dreams that keeps Mindy fighting is to fully recover and parlay your support into a foundation that will offer autoimmune education and financial support to others suffering as she is today.
My wife Mindy is a truly remarkable person whose unwavering faith, discipline and courage in the face of such adversity and unimaginable pain fills me with an endless appreciation for the power and goodness of the human spirit.

These are our dogs, Baryshnikov And Tahoe. They love their mom, Mindy, beyond measure. They asked me to appeal to anyone reading this... "Please help save our mom, she is our Bestie!... She has been gone weeks and we are so lonely we cannot imagine a life without her. " Her tummy rubs and all her LOVE she gives us is irreplaceable!
"If you have a compassionate bone in your
body, please donate to my former sister-in-law’s gofundme page. She could really use
your help. No insurance and too sick to work, she needs funding to continue her medical treatmenta with now her current

Mindy‘s house was my comfort zone growing up in a wealthy suburb as a lone little brown girl. Mindy and I were fast friends, holding hands walking to and from school. How I missed my Mindy our friendship when my family moved to another town! We recently reconnected, both well acquainted with suffering. Our time is spent talking, praying, hoping. I’m watching my dear friend suffer from the ravages of her multiple illnesses. It is an honor to be a haven to my friend who was that for me when I felt alone.

I met Mindy Surell thirty years ago. We became the best of friends and Mindy was always welcomed in the family home as everyone enjoyed her company and sense of humor. Sadly, Mindy had been mauled in the face by a dog and lost her home and pretty much
everything - but lived through this tragic attack and worked tirelessly to carve out a new life and career. We always had so much fun and Mindy was so friendly with a generous, loving, and happy spirit.
Mindy has blessed me and my sister and brother with her wisdom, love and resources whenever we needed help and advice.
When I visited Mindy after she fell ill I was shocked to see my friend a shell of her former self. Her weight loss scares me as she has
always been into a fitness/healthy lifestyle and strong for a petite gal.
Mindy continues to fight for her life with each new health challenge she faces. I admire her strength and hope. She has great faith in God and mankind that she will heal from the diseases that have invaded her body. Mindy is a warrior, and with our help she will get well to enjoy simple things that most of us take for granted. I am a better person because of Mindy and I believe that along with her many friends both old and new we can make her better, as well!
