Mike's Lungs

Donation protected
Mike has been in and out of the hospital since the beginning of the year with serious respiratory issues. Despite all of the hospitals and doctors we have been to and seen, we haven't been able to get any definitive answers from anyone up until now. He is at Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar, Ca. Since he has been there, he has had open lung surgery to have a biopsy to determine what exactly is going on with his lungs.

Michaels biopsy has come back and showed that he has what is called Interstitial Lung Disease. There are many different forms of this disease ranging from many different severities. His particular diagnosis is Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Basically, IPF is a type of lung disease that results in scarring (fibrosis) of the lungs for an unknown reason. Over time, the scarring gets worse and it becomes hard to take in a deep breath and the lungs cannot take in enough oxygen. In Michael’s case, his lungs are both equally scarred from top to bottom and without a lung transplant, he has no chance at breathing fully or correctly again. He needs a double lung transplant ASAP because IPF is irreversible and incurable.

He is still in the same hospital he got admitted into when he first went in a few weeks ago, waiting to be transferred to one of three hospitals. UCSD, UCLA OR USC. All of these places have an awesome reputation and I have no doubt that wherever he ends up, they will care for him the best they can. He is on a list for each place, and as soon as a bed opens up, he will be transferred right away. Unfortunately, at this point, there are several people ahead of him waiting, and we don’t really have answers on a timeline. It could be hours or weeks.

As far as financials, Michael’s job has stopped paying him this week. We just submitted disability, but it will be weeks before we find out whether he qualifies or not and even then, a few weeks/months after that to get any funds whatsoever.

We need your help now more than ever. I am so grateful and appreciative of all of the love and support you have shown our family thus far! I am forever grateful and humbled by all of your kind gestures. A lot of you who are local to Temecula have stopped by to visit Michael and bring him snacks and goodies and gifts and it means SO much. It means EVERYTHING.
