Mike’s Brain Surgery and Cancer Treatments

Michael Mafara has always been his own sole provider. He has worked everyday of his entire life up until now. Mike went into urgent care for a sty on his eye, the sty kept growing and after numerous tests we found out it was a cancerous tumor. At this point it was pushing down on his eye making him not able to see and pushing on his brain as well. They did a full scan of his body and found out the cancer was in his lung, spine, brain and lymph nodes. After having brain surgery to remove most of the tumor he would be able to start radiation for the cancer however things didn’t go as planned. There was a leak in his head from the surgery causing a build up of air and soon he became delusional. He didn’t know what was going on, what year it was, or who anyone was. He couldn’t even walk or function properly. He was in the hospital for about three weeks with no one by his side due to covid. He wasn’t ready to come home yet however we were forced to take him out because his insurance wouldn’t allow him to start treatments as an in patient in the hospital and he needed to start radiation as the cancer in his brain is already at stage 4 and we didn’t have anymore time to waste. With Mike being the only sole provider for himself, being laid off from covid since March, not receiving unemployment due to switching jobs, and not being able to collect disability yet, it’s been hard on our family to afford all the expenses. We haven’t even gone over medical expenses yet, we are just trying to keep his house up and running.
