Hey there, my name is Cameron Munoz and I am a 22 year old percussionist and composer.
Back in 2007, I was introduced to an organization known as WGI (Winterguard International). I was given the opportunity to join the Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps 'C' division, which is a youth division of the world class 'A' corps (the 'A' corps looks a little something like this https://youtu.be/hTz15T0v9M0). Through that experience is where I found my love for marching snare and field shows. I quickly grew passionate about my involvement in the program, performing with the group for the 2007 and 2008 seasons and was set to become the center snare in the 2010 season, but was unable to continue through due to personal reasons.
Throughout highschool I prided myself with the fact that I would once day join the Blue Devils 'B' corps division and work my way up to the 'A' corps, but to my dismay, that never happened. Now at the age of 22, a year older than the age cap of 21, it will never become a reality.
It wasn't until about a week ago that I found out about a WGI group affiliated with Blue Devils Performing Arts called 'RCC Indoor Percussion'. Being that this is a group based within a Community College, I decided it was worth looking into, and incredibly enough their age cap is 22! I have another chance to join something that I've been craving since 2007! (This is the group btw! https://youtu.be/ArTgxmE5sco)
About 2 months prior to this knowledge, I was already picking up snare again after neglecting it for 2 years and upon finding out about this group, my chops have never been more exercized. (Here is a video of me playing an exerpt from the Bluecoats 2015 Show https://youtu.be/vrB51bnBYU8)
My issue here is, of course, the ability to afford all of the costs:
Tuition: $289 (I need to take corresponding classes)
Audition: $100 (These are in September!!)
Membership: $1600
All of this comes out to $1989, which I rounded up to $2k in case of any extra fees (i.e. there is a $6 processing fee just for the audition).
This is a HUGE dream of mine and I am extremely passionate about joining. All of my plans for the rest of this year have been put aside at the opportunity that I get to perform in a world class ensemble. Any help I can get from anyone is hugely appreciated.
Thank you so much for reading through this. This is something that means a great deal to me and I am going to do nearly everything it takes for me to get into this group.
