Hello, my name is Paula Flores. I have been married for 49 years and have three children, eleven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Exactly two months ago on May 20th, I was diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer called “Heptocellular Carcinoma”. In addition, I was also told that I have “non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver”. Since liver cancer is rare, not much is known about it.
What we do know is that I have two tumors in segment 7 of my liver, one dime-sized and the other, half-dollar sized. I am between Stage 2 and Stage 3, more to the 3 side according to one oncologist. My liver is still functioning at a normal level at this time. It looks like we may have caught it early.
It has taken almost two months for me to finally get answers on treatment. My understanding from several oncologists is that I have few options. Of course they want to start with chemo and/or radiation to shrink the tumors, and then a liver transplant. I do not want to do the standard and poisonous chemo or radiation that destroys not only cancer cells, but healthy cells as well, not to mention the painful side effects caused by such treatments.
While waiting to find out what kind of treatment they would recommend, I researched and found that there are successful cancer fighting holistic and alternative medicine treatments/protocols not offered by standard “western medicine”. Some of these holistic and alternative medicine treatments have an 80% or better success rate over chemo and radiation. I have decided to go with holistic and alternative medicine to stop the cancer and keep it from spreading, even changing doctors to one that specializes in alternative medicine.
Unfortunately, while my doctor is covered by insurance, the treatment protocols are not. The treatment is expensive. I have already raised some money by yard selling much of my antique collection, but without insurance to cover the remaining costs, I cannot get the treatment. My doctor has already started me and on an all organic vegan diet and supplements to cleanse my body of toxins in preparation for the alternative treatment which will take 6 months or more to complete.
As I stated above, without insurance to cover the remaining cost, I must do something that I wish I did not have to do and that is ask for your help. Asking for help is not easy for me, but it is something I must do to continue fighting this deadly prognosis. So, from the depths of my heart I ask for help from "anyone" at all who can donate and/or share my fundraiser page. I would be forever grateful for any amount donated and/or for a simple share of this page to help me continue my battle.
As we all know cancer does not wait and I am hopeful to get started on the treatment as soon as possible. Funds raised will used for treatments costs, transportation cost to appointments, and any other costs associated with treatment. If this experience works for me, I will pay it forward by helping others fight cancer.
The realization that I may die within a year has made me appreciate and embrace life more and not give up. I know I have a long journey ahead, but I have faith and along with the love and support from all my family and friends that are joining me on this journey, and your help will get me through this and *beat cancer!*
Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
