Help Trans Man and Partner Seek Safer Surroundings

hello. my name is max cunningham. i’m a trans man living in florida. i’m also a painter who also works with disabled children with behavioral health needs. i’m passionate about my work, and i live a happy a beautiful, amorous life with my partner terrence.

my partner and i came here before the 2024 election for temporary free room and board. since then we’ve moved into our own place. we both work 40+ hours a week and yet due to the cost of living are having a hard time saving up for moving.

i feel deeply unsafe here in florida. i can be arrested for using the bathroom. i have been followed and confronted in stores, followed in parking lots. with the rhetoric that’s spreading throughout the country falsely accusing trans people of being dangerous and calling us “cancer,” and more than one prominent media personality calling for us to be literally rounded up, i beg of you; please help me and my partner get to safety. anything you can give will lessen the burden of the cross country move to washington state, where the laws protect us and canada is just miles away if we need to flee the country.

don’t wait until never again is too late. one of the first steps of fascism is demonizing and then criminalizing a minority group. less than 1% of the american population is trans. there’s no truth to the the idea that we’re dangerous, in fact we’re much more likely to be a victim of violence and much less likely than other populations to commit violence. the data and facts are not there to support these lies, but some people still believe them, and those people make my life and my partner’s life dangerous.
