"This is a nightmare," my friend Ebony said to me as we stood beside the ICU bed of her sweet 8-year-old son, Malachi. I'm Patti, I've known Ebony since she was a child herself.
On Friday, Nov. 18, she, Malachi and her older son got out of the car and did what you're supposed to do – look both ways before you cross the street... left... right... left again. In a split second, the way wasn't clear anymore and Malachi was struck by a car. You can see a news story about it here .
Malachi is a third grade student at Orenda Elementary in Clifton Park, NY. He's a sweet, funny, and brilliant little boy. "There isn't anyone who has ever met him who doesn't love him," his mom, Ebony, says.
Today, Malachi is in a pediatric ICU bed with multiple fractures (skull, pelvis, ribs) and other injuries, and is facing possible surgery and an extended recovery under the best of circumstances.
Ebony is the sole financial provider for her three children. She has a great job; she makes ends meet, but like a lot of people, there's not a ton of margin. And, if she doesn't work, she doesn't get paid.
Couple those basic bills with additional commuting to the hospital, plus anticipated additional expenses for Malachi's care after the hospital, therapy and any needed medical equipment, well, it adds up quickly.
We're asking you to help. All the proceeds will help meet needs for care and family expenses while Ebony needs to attend to Malachi's immediate care and recovery.
We can be comfort during this nightmare. We can make a difference for this family.
We are so thankful for every gift – no matter how much – and look forward to updating you with Malachi's progress toward a complete recovery.
Thank you!
GoFundMe requires the following be clarified:
I'm Patti Gibbons, a longtime friend of Malachi's mother. I'm from Albany, NY. The funds from this campaign will be used to pay for any medical needs, care, equipment that Malachi needs, and to help meet household expenses for him, his mother, brother and sister while Ebony, his mother, is out of work to care for him.
The funds will be transferred from this fund to Ebony to pay those expenses as needed.
