Help care for the Homeless
Donation protected
Each Tuesday and Thursday we make 15 gallons of soup to feed needy homeless people around the Chicago loop. each day costs us about 80 dollars this campain is to try and raise enough money to continue this for one year. For the last year this has all been donations of a samll amount of people and unfortunatly some days we never got the needed supplies. On days we cannot make it downtown due to the rain or lack of supplies we then bring the 15 gallons of soup to two south suburban shelters and one in NW Indiana. The people we encounter are no longer bums and alcoholics but people from other countries trying to make a life for themselves. Or people who lost their job and their homes were foreclosed, or loss due to fire like one guy who lost a child in a fire and the wife was so distraught they got divorced and this guy now has nothing. I could write one of the saddest books with the stories I've been told... there are also good stories like of a guy named Melvin. He was homeless and when we first found him he had not talked to anyone for the last three days. We fed him, clothed him, hugged him and he was in tears by the time we left because it had been so long since he felt love. Last we heard, we got him a pair of steel toe boots and he got a job and now has his own little apartment. Some homeless people we bring special treats for. like this man named Larry. He is a homeless man who is on Columbus bridge. The special treat we bring him is blowing bubbles. Each day he has bubbles he fills the streets around the river walk with bubbles. Every week he gets so excited when we call out his name and tell him we have more bubbles for him. Please help us to continue loving these lost people.
