Help for Liam's Heart

Liam and his parents find themselves reliving the worst experience of their lives. It has only been nine months since their son’s first open heart surgery. However, this time there is a risk of losing the life saving doctors and facilities that Liam has had access to.

It was only the second day of Liam’s life when he was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). A (TOF) heart has four major defects that are life threatening if not corrected through surgery. But, even when repaired through multiple surgeries, TOF is a life long condition.  

By the third month of Liam’s life, this baby boy went into heart failure. His parents where told that he would have to have his first open heart surgery soon. Liam underwent open-heart surgery for the first time at four months old. In the process "we almost lost our precious child twice," but Liam, a name that means strong-willed warrior, pulled through.  

Other than being underweight, Liam has been doing well, laughing and dancing as he slowly grows. So it was unexpected in May when his parents were told that Liam must undergo a second open-heart surgery. The surgeon’s plan is to repair and replace sections of Liam’s heart’s pulmonary valve so that his little heart doesn’t need to work so hard to get oxygen to his body.

Upon facing this seemingly endless nightmare, the family now finds themselves doing so with less income and without the high quality insurance they had before. The parents have no other options but to "be strong and fight for our son's life." Doing this means keeping Liam's current doctors and access to Children's Hospital of Los Angeles.  However, it also means even more medical bills, less work, and no government assistance for this working family.

For these reasons we are asking for your help. Liam's parents have tried to bare the weight of this finanicial burden, but can no longer do so alone. Liam y sus padres se encuentran pasando la peor experiencia de su vida. Sólo han sido nueve meses desde la cirugía de corazón abierto del pequeño Liam. Sin embargo, quizás esta vez el pequeño Liam no tendrá acceso a los médicos y el hospital de renombre que le salvaron su vida en la primera cirugía.

Como algunos de ustedes sabrán, en el segundo día de la vida de Liam fue diagnosticado con tetralogía de Fallot (TOF). Quiere decir que su corazoncito tiene cuatro principales defectos que son potencialmente mortales si no se corrigen mediante cirugía. Pero, incluso cuando reparado a través de múltiples cirugías, TOF es una condición del que Liam no se curará por completo.

Durante el tercer mes de su vida, a Liam lo diagnosticaron con insuficiencia cardiaca. Los doctores dijeron que tendría que someterse a su primera cirugía a corazón abierto con urgencia. Liam fue sometido a una cirugía a corazón abierto por primera vez a los cuatro meses de edad. En el proceso, los padres de Liam dijeron: "Casi perdimos nuestro precioso hijo dos veces", pero Liam, su nombre significa guerrero tenaz, salió triunfante. Aparte de la falta de peso, a Liam le ha ido bien, el se ríe y baila, es un pequeño de muy buen humor.

En mayo, los doctores les comunicaron a sus padres que Liam tendría que someterse a una segunda cirugía de corazón abierto. El plan del cirujano es reparar y reemplazar secciones de la válvula pulmonar del corazón de Liam para que su pequeño corazón no tenga que trabajar tan duro para traer oxígeno a su pequeño cuerpo.

Como si estas malas noticias no fueran suficiente, la familia se encuentra ahora con menos ingresos y sin aseguran medica de alta calidad que tenían antes. Los padres de Liam no tienen otra opción mas que "ser fuerte y luchar por la vida de nuestro hijo." Hacer esto significa mantener los médicos y el hospital Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. Sin embargo, también significa aún más gastos médicos, interrupción de trabajo, y sin ayuda del gobierno.

Por estas razones estamos pidiendo su ayuda. Los padres de Liam han intentado asumir la carga financial, pero ya no pueden hacerlo solos - necesitan su ayuda. Todas las donaciones irán directamente a los gastos médicos actuales y futuros de Liam.
