Hi!
I’m Kuna, an 11 month Husky/Malamute mix that unfortunately keeps bumping into things. My parents brought me into the vet to see why and I was diagnosed with Juvenile cataracts. My parents are fighting hard for me, brought me to multiple vets to find the best solution. My brown eye has the most significant vision impact with no “response” to stimulus and the blue is only partially impaired. It’s best to fix both since the progression of cataracts can be so fast in young pups!
The only way to restore my vision is through cataract removal surgery where they remove my cloudy lenses and replace them with new ones! The awesome thing is, with this surgery my rate of success is 80-90% and my vision can be fully restored!
The not so awesome thing… even though my parents have puppy insurance for me, it doesn’t cover cataracts for dogs under the age of 7, So when my parents saw the bill they were in shock!
I love to hike, to run, to play in my dads obstacle course in our backyard. I’m too young to give up my vision! If you can donate even just a little to help my parents with this cost I will be so grateful! These funds will cover the cost of the surgery , pre-operative testing and post operative care. 1 full day of surgery on both eyes, all my medications and the many future check ups(1 day, 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months post op). Additionally the vet will see me 2x a year to check for complications and catch anything early (not included in this cost)
It is an uphill battle from here but I’m up for it! For the rest of my life, regardless of if I get this surgery or not, I’ll be on eye drops to reduce inflammation and prevent any further issues with my eyes, like glaucoma. I’ve already shown my parents I’m an A+ eye drop receiver and they are so proud of me!
