Help Kangemi

We are a student capstone group in the International Development Studies program at the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. We are traveling to Nairobi, Kenya to conduct a vulnerability assessment of Kangemi slum to assist organizations in best developing a water delivery infrastructure.

The people of Kangemi live in an informal settlement, only partially served by the government's water utility. Most residents access water through communal kiosks, often far away from their homes, and pay much more than Nairobi's typical residents. Our team will be going into Kangemi and conducting focus groups with residents and other relevant stakeholders. Our findings will be used to help inform the development of water infrastructure within Kangemi, and hopefully other slums in Nairobi in the future, helping residents be better connected to water, more resilient to the drought that is plaguing Kenya, and able to live healthier lives.

Our partners were not able to fully fund our project, and as four graduate students we are having a little trouble coming up with the money ourselves. Any contribution would help! Money that is donated towards this cause will be used to fund our travel, room, and board. Remaining funds will be donated to help support our local partner, Caritas Kenya.
