Our friend Jun is a loving husband, a doting father, a supportive friend, and a dependable colleague. Jun knows how to make anyone feel comfortable and is always ready to tell a good dad joke. When you see Jun, he’s usually contagiously chuckling away as he begins to tell a joke or vibrantly sharing a story of a time a restaurant got his order wrong.
On May 13, 2023, Jun was unfortunately diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) – a rare type of blood cancer where a body’s bone marrow is unable to produce healthy blood cells. Since then, every day for Jun has been a battle with cancer.
This condition has forced Jun to go through multiple rounds of blood transfusions on a bi-weekly level, just to stay alive. On top of the blood transfusions, Jun has gone through three rounds of chemotherapy and has been waiting for a bone marrow donor match to no avail. Unable to find a match for months, Jun signed up for a clinical trial that involves a Stem Cell Transplant (STC) using artificial stem cells. Thankfully, on December 1, 2023, Jun got word that he qualified for this clinical trial and was officially approved on December 8, 2023. Jun will be admitted into UCLA Medical Center on December 15, 2023. Once admitted, he will be going through 7 days of intensive chemotherapy and radiation to destroy the majority of stem cells in his bone marrow. Following this painful procedure, Jun will be receiving his stem cell transplant on December 22, 2023 and monitored in the hospital daily until January 5, 2024 (though this may extend based on his conditions).
Post-hospital discharge, Jun requires continuous care while rehabilitating in a hospital hotel nearby with a 24-hour caretaker by his side for a minimum of 4 weeks. During this time, he will be making daily trips to the hospital for critical monitoring of his recovery.
That’s where we come in. Your positive thoughts, prayers, time, and donations are all pivotal. Every cent of your donation will fund the essential 24-hour caretaker, blood transfusion differences, transportation, hotel expenses, and direct medical needs. Your generosity will directly contribute to Jun’s chance at life, allowing him to return to his family and watch his three-year-old son grow up. Stand alongside Jun in this fight against MDS and be a part of his journey towards recovery. Help comfort him in his time of need like he’s done for us whenever we needed a friend to laugh with.
