Help FF Jimmy McLoughlin Jr.

Firefighter Jimmy McLoughlin Jr is always one of the first to respond to the call for service to his community.  Now he needs us to respond for him.  In a car accident yesterday, he was badly injured and now he needs our help.

Jimmy has fought countless fires over the years and has performed so many heroic acts of kindness for the community.  In fact, it was just last Friday that Jimmy drove Engine 6 to the scene of a brush fire on Bellport Road and quickly got us the water to fight the fire.

In 2014, in recognition of all the time and effort he gave the Sound Beach community, Jimmy was chosen by Chief Thomas Sternberg as Firefighter of the Year, which is SBFD's highest honor.

In 2015, Jimmy fought a large house fire in what turned out to be a member's family's home.  Manning  the hoseline, he went inside the house and helped stop the fire that had spread throughout the basement and most of the main floor.  When that family approached us later to ask what they could do to give back to the community that responded for them, we knew we could count on Jimmy.  Together we produced a video with the MacElveen family where they shared their experiences with the community to teach them some key fire safety lessons.  Jimmy did a masterful job filming and putting the finished video together.  It came out looking like a professional documentary.  Check it out below if you haven't seen it yet.

Since then, the video has been seen all over the world and has become a regular part of our Sound Beach Fire Prevention efforts, which is another calling that Jimmy has always been there for.  Always one to lend his skills to the task, he created videos to support our department open houses and other events.  He is always looking for ways to combine his skill as a professional cameraman with his service to the fire department.

This time however, our brother firefighter needs us to respond for him!  On Thursday afternoon at around 1700 hours, an accident occurred on 25A and Jimmy was transported to Stony Brook Hospital.  There it was found that he had two broken vertebrae and needs to go in for surgery to fuse part of his spine and repair the damage that was done.

We would like to raise some funds to give to Jimmy that will help him get back on his feet.  He has a major surgery and a long road to recovery ahead of him where he will be out of work for some time, will need to contend with medical and rehabilitation costs, and eventually replace his totalled vehicle.

Jimmy has always responded to the needs of the community and to his brother and sister firefighters and EMTs.  It is time for us to respond to his need now and help him in his time of need.

This page has been created on behalf of the Chief's Office of the Sound Beach Fire Department.  Chief Thomas Sternberg, Chief Keith Williams, Chief Michael Rosasco, Captain Mike Macrelli and myself, all thank you for your contribution.
