Help Jen & Dom get their home back

In September 2018, Jen found a few strange spots in a cabinet. After looking and testing, she discovered moisture damage - mold - was all over her home she shares with her 9-year-old son, Dominic. The more she looked, the more she found - under cabinets and flooring, behind panels and furniture... ground water/foundation issues had encouraged mold growth that invaded her home everywhere and made it uninhabitable.
She and Dominic have had to vacate their home, they have moved with their few salvageable possessions to share a single room with nearby family while their house is under massive decontamination and repair efforts. Their home needs extensive work - floors ripped up, cabinets and closets ripped out, and 2 entire bathrooms gutted where the damage was the worst.
They have lost almost all of their possessions, clothing/shoes/toys, furniture, flooring, and cabinets, pictures, electronics, food… have all had to be removed because of the extensive mold contamination.
This unexpected and sudden issue has been incredibly hard on Jen, who is a single working mother, and Dom, displaced during school and activities. They are coping with the stress and strain of it all, losing almost everything, and the massive financial hardship of the cleaning/ decontamination/ construction/ repairs. Unfortunately, this damage is not covered under her homeowners insurance as it is mold caused by a ground water issue, and not from a burst pipe or other home plumbing issue.
Some of the key steps:
- Addressing the foundation. Moisture sealing concrete and vapor barriers installed.
- Flooring decontamination (for vinyl) and replacement (for carpet areas) installations
- Cabinetry and closets removal, cleaning, sealing, being re-done
- 2 entire bathrooms gutted to the studs and redone
- New gutters/drainage installation
- Demolition, removals, dumpsters, hauling expenses
- HVAC, Air scrubbers, HEPA vac and antimicrobial cleanings for anything salvageable
- New furniture and flooring and possessions expenses
They are basically starting over, their house emptied. Any help toward the costs to move things along and get them back in their home would be so very appreciated for this displaced mother and son.
There’s still a lot to do, but it would be amazing to help them be settled back in their home for the holidays. Thank you very much.
