I need your help. My medical situation has gone beyond my control and I have lost the ability to handle it myself. I have recently been diagnosed with severe liver problems complicated by Hepatitis , Ascites (fluid in the liver), Diabetes, and Fibromyalgia. If I can not turn this around I face a liver transplant or worse the end of my life. Please read my story and see if you feel you can help.
Life has truly turned the tables on me. Most of my life has been spent in the service of others, helping in any way I can. Now it seems that I am the one in need. My medical situation has become life altering and I cannot handle it alone. My health has been on a steep decline the last six months. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Diabetes a few years ago and I had learned how to live with that. Unfortunately, the pain and fatigue started to accelerate alarmingly. I have been without insurance for some time now as I have not been physically able to work full time to get benefits. I simply could not afford to go to the doctor. Luckily, I found the Mercy Clinic here in Auburn Alabama. They have been able to provide me with some low cost care and helped me with getting some assistance from our local hospital (East Alabama Medical Center). This is how I found out that my two known problems had become much more serious and that now I also have serious liver and thyroid problems. Continued testing has reveled that I have Hepatitis and fluid building in my liver (Ascites). At this point it can hopefully can be slowed. If it gets any worse the mortality rate becomes very high. This along with extreme diabetic nerve pain and fibro pain/fatigue have complicated things to the point it is impossible to work. Even sleep and daily life activities have become difficult. That means I am now facing all this without an income and my savings are wiped out. I am blessed with a very sweet and loving family and they want so badly to be able to help, but none of them are in a financial situation where they can. My oldest son Andrew still lives with me. He is an awesome young man (he is 18 now) and he wants to get a job to help. This is a challenge because he is Autistic. (Asperger’s to be specific) We are working with the kind people at the Lee County Autism Resource & Advocacy center to help him with training and opportunities. My youngest son has gone to live with his mother and my daughter lives in town with her husband and provides me with all the love and support a father could ask for. I have always been the one who loved to help others, through church, my time as an elementary teacher, and any other way I could find to be of service to those in need. Now I hope that I can be brave and reach out to others to help me in my time of need. No matter what happens next, I will still count myself a lucky man.
Here are my needs
I am attempting to raise enough money to cover medical expenses and to help with lost wages as I work on filing for disability and trying to fight for my health. Specifically, I need to cover continuing medical bills, as well as rent, the car payment, and utilities for the next several months.
Working with gofundme is an option I had never considered before, but now it may be my only chance. Please help me if you can. My family and I will be forever grateful.
