Helping out Bob

On June 17, Bob Petersen was diagnosed with cancer. He had been out of work on medical leave since April and in 2 weeks he will have used up the last of his work sick time and will have to file for long term disability. At 60% of his current pay, Bob will be taking a financial hit as he works on getting better, along with working on Medicare/Medicaid for his primary health benefits.

We are raising money to help assist Bob with his medical and personal bills. This would help him focus on his healing and family instead of worrying about bills.

Bob has dedicated his life to working for the betterment of his community during his time as a Police Officer. Working in Glendale and retiring from Rock Hill with decades of service, he chose to once again work for others by coming to St. Louis University.

At SLU he has been a valuable asset on his shift. With his years of experience in law enforcement, he provides guidance and wisdom to younger officers who are just in the beginning of their careers. Bob encourages them, is the first person to call or text if an officer did a great job on a call and is always making sure people get recognized for outstanding jobs. No matter what the call, he will always be around in case he's needed, not letting his age keep him from helping his coworkers. When working with the public he gives that "grandfather" style correction to students who may not be making the best decisions for themselves.

His grand father wisdom doesn't stop at work though since the birth of his first grandchild, Jack.  As a recovering alcoholic, Bob has turned his life’s focus to his family. He has since been able to walk his only daughter down the aisle, witness the birth of his first grandson, and be a continued support system to his daughter Erin and her husband Mike. They love him dearly and enjoy spending each moment they can in his company. One of the ways Bob loves to help his family is being the go-to babysitter for date night. Babysitting is one thing he always talks about for days after, usually accompanied by a short story on how he had to explain to Jack that he doesn't need to raise a fuss while getting a new diaper because he won't have a dirty one anymore.

Outside of work, Bob has the family support of his siblings, daughter and son-in-law. We all know how important family support can be in times like this. But Bob also has a support system here at SLU. Thank you for considering supporting Bob during this difficult time.
