Helping Dan In His Recovery

Dan has been a bike racer for over 15 years and has recently picked up mountain biking within the last 5 years.  Although racing itself is fun for him, his favorite thing about biking is making lasting memories with his biking buddies or with friends he has met along the way.

Sunday, June 5th 2016, Dan sustained an unstable fracture in his T12 vertebrae while practicing agility drills at home.  Upon learning of his fracture, he was admitted to the hospital on June 6th.  On June 9th, Dan had to undergo a 6 hour surgery which consisted of two general surgeons and one neurosurgeon.  This specific surgery involves the moving of the diaphragm, a lung and the removal of one rib bone.  At this point, the neurosurgeon is able to build a "cage" around the fractured T12 vertebrae.  Because of the moving of his lung, Dan needed to have two temporary chest-draining tubes installed.  This required him to stay in the hospital another 5 days.  He was in the hospital for a total of 8 days.  


Dan will be off of work for 3 months with no pay.  We are looking for help to meet the insurance deductibles and other medical expenses.  All remaining money that is not utilized will be donated to the local humane society.
