Hi, we are Chef Kurtis and Candace the owners of Squash the Beef.
We are raising funds for our friend, brother in business, and valued community member, Carasai Ihentuge.
On Tuesday, April 7, Carasai received the heartbreaking and unexpected news that his father passed away suddenly. Carasai is the owner of Yum Village, a beloved Cleveland establishment known for its incredible Afro-Caribbean cuisine and deep cultural impact in our city. Beyond the food, Carasai is someone who pours into the community, through his work, his partnerships, and his generosity.
This loss comes with a heavy emotional and financial burden. Carasai must now travel to Nigeria to lay his father to rest and honor him properly. At the same time, he is responsible for maintaining his businesses here in the U.S. His brother is currently managing their Detroit location, meaning this loss is impacting both restaurants and their entire family.
As business owners ourselves, we understand that there are truly no days off. Even a small disruption can cause major setbacks and this is far from small. This is life-altering.
With Carasai’s full permission, we are organizing this fundraiser to help ease the financial strain during this time. All proceeds will go directly to Carasai and his family to assist with travel expenses, funeral arrangements, and to help keep his businesses afloat while he takes the time he needs to grieve.
If you’ve ever supported Yum Village, enjoyed their food, or experienced Carasai’s kindness and dedication, please consider donating. No amount is too small.
We know our community. And we know we show up for each other.
Let’s come together to support Carasai in this moment.
Thank you.
