Helping with Harper's Recovery

This page has been created to help offset the veterinary expenses following an accident that occurred 6/17 at the Loudoun Benefit Horse Show. Harper (a 4 year old, 12lb miniature dachshund) was helping her mom clean stalls first thing in the morning when a car sped past and hit her. Harper’s mom immediately ran over and scooped her up to find the horse show veterinarian. Harper was then rushed to a local veterinary clinic where they discovered her hip was fractured in 3 places, her SI was dislocated, and she was unable to feel one of her hind limbs.

In a community effort to get the best possible team to help Harper her family then took her to a Trauma Center expecting to need to do further imaging to see the scope of her injuries. The doctors kept her overnight trying to get her stable enough to come up with a surgical plan. Luckily Harper is a small but mighty fighter and made it through the night and into surgery on Friday. Her surgeons used two metal plates and screws to stabilize her hip in hopes of her being mobile again. Her prognosis has continued to improve and she was finally able to go home to her mom on Sunday morning.

Harper and her mom, Morgan, have a long road ahead. She will need to be on strict crate rest for the next several weeks only coming out for brief periods of physical therapy, heat and cold therapy, moments outside, and gentle cuddles from her mom. Harper is expected to have extensive physical therapy and follow up appointments due to this horrific event.

We are asking friends and supporters of Morgan and Harper to contribute in any way towards her mounting vet expenses.
