Help our hero who has donated the gift of life

Cindy’s story is a true story of faith, love, perseverance, and ultimately the most generous act of kindness.
Cindy was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease six years ago during a routine physical. Within a few years, her kidneys deteriorated to debilitating levels, and a transplant was deemed imminent.
In those years following the diagnosis, Cindy suffered through all the trials and tribulations of kidney disease - going from a very active, on-the-go gal to someone who struggles with the daily tasks others might take for granted.
What’s more, her prognosis dimmed, when doctors told her, that only 1% of the population is a match for her, (Cindy suffers from a severe antibody issue, causing her abnormally-high antibody numbers to fight off most foreign organs).
It became up to Cindy, her friends, and her family members to become her biggest advocates - a true numbers game against time.
Through God’s grace, and the power of the internet, she’s had over 80 absolutely amazing folks test for her. In fact, OHSU has never had someone with so many potential donors test for one person. She’s so very, very loved!
Sadly though, not a single one of those amazing folks who testing were matches.
It’s been a disparaging couple years to say the least. However, in the midst of testing, doctors informed Cindy about a match program. This program, revolutionary, and has saved numerous lives since its inception.
The doctor informed her, that If one of the generous, fabulously amazing, folks who tested for her (who wasn’t deemed a match) is willing to go into the match bank, they could be eligible to donate to someone else, who in turn, would have their donor, donate to Cindy. It’s a literal kidney swap.
That’s where our angels come in - Curtis Groves and his wife Mallory discussed the kidney swap possibility, and without hesitation, Curtis went into the match program as Cindy’s advocate. Thus, the most selfless act a human being can do. We are still blown away by his decision.
Then it happened! Cindy got the call!
The University of Washington found the perfect match for Cindy. They asked she bring her advocate (Curtis) into the match program, to complete the swap. Cindy called Curtis (who lives in Nashville), and this true hero didn’t hesitate for a second.
He flew into Seattle immediately for testing, and began lining up everything he and his wife Mallory would need, to assure Cindy received this kidney - again, we are completely blown away by all of this!! The surgery is set for July 19, 2019.
Cindy will receive a kidney from an anonymous donor, at the same time, Curtis will donate his kidney to a person unknown, to complete the swap. It’s a miracle of GOD!!! He gets all the glory for this one!!
HERE IS WHERE YOU GUYS COME IN!! How can you help? Curtis and Mallory are making a life changing sacrifice, putting Cindy’s opportunity ahead of everything else.
We are so beyond, and eternally thankful for them, and their heroism. Most importantly we want to make sure they don’t run into any financial hardships during this process.
Because of the surgery, they will both be out of work for three weeks. Also, because of the rigorous recovery Curtis will face in the weeks ahead, Mallory will be at his bedside (she’s an RN) for the entire time he’s in Seattle, leaving their two boys in Nashville with her parents for their three weeks away. Bills will pile high during this time. It should be noted, that all who are either donors or recipients for organ transplants must have a full time care-giver for the weeks following surgery, hence Mallory in Seattle.
Our goal is to cover all their living expenses, insurance costs, flights, gas and food for their two little guys (7 &4) during Curtis’ month of recovery.
We’ve had a number of people reach out to us, asking if they can help financially. This is the perfect opportunity!! We all can help a hero, who selflessly, is undergoing a HUGE risk, to save a very loved life. If you’d be so kind, and have it in your heart to help us bless this family (these heroes) - we, and they, would be eternally thankful.
