Helping with Ed's shoulder surgery

Hello! My name is Stephanie. My best friends, Ed and Cheryl, have found themselves in a pickle. Recently, Ed was diagnosed with a type 4 slap tear in his right shoulder which, unfortunately the only fix is surgery. This is scheduled for the 16th of September and will require a substantial amount of time off from his job at a local convivence store in the north side. His employer is holding his job for him once he's able to return to work, after a minimum of 6 weeks off, which is great!

However, here is the root of the problem, since they are a small store and have so few employees they are not required to offer any of the benefits that most of us take for granted. So none of his time off will be with pay.

His wife Cheryl is currently at a new job and has not yet met the time needed to secure any benefits that her place of employment offers and FMLA is not an option either due to the timing of the incident. So, she too will be missing time off without pay while she takes care of him and her employer can legally terminate her employment if they wish. Pennsylvania is an at will state and the risk of losing employment over the need to take care of family is a very real concern.

They estimated a loss of income of 2000 for two months. They are hoping to raise 2500.00 to cover the essential things of utilities, phone, internet and car insurance and any unforeseen medical expenses that may occur as a result of insurance not paying for all of the procedure. Other friends are helping them with food and other essentials.
