Hi, my name is Angelique, and I'm making a desperate appeal to your heart of generosity and compassion. I started this fundraising campaign because Liberia is near and dear to my heart as the place of my birth. It has been raining virtually non-stop for four days. The torrential downpour has caused significant flooding, resulting in various challenges and hardships for people I deeply care about. I'm heartbroken and cannot help but use every means possible to seek material help for the desperate people of Liberia. Specifically, I want to help members of the two church plants of aciW (a church in the World) in Liberia under the pastoral leadership of my husband. 49 members have been displaced from one campus and 21 from the other.
The damages caused by the heavy rains have compounded the plight of a country that is also experiencing the crushing weight of widespread poverty and a more than 80% jobless rate. With the flooding:
**Members of our church family who live in poor conditions and thousands more are now displaced from their homes with nowhere to go.
**Adults and children are becoming sick
**Meager food supplies have been destroyed. Many poor Liberians (roughly 70%) consume only one meal daily. Each day they leave their homes for the market to purchase food—the flooding prevents them from going out to find daily sustenance
**Sewage and human waste are being carried by the floods into homes, causing illnesses
**People lack medicine to treat infections and diseases
**Those who have taken in the displaced don't have the financial resources to feed them
**Homes have been destroyed and need to be rebuilt
**Paper money and other important documents have been destroyed
Regretfully, the government of Liberia is ill-equipped and under-resourced to provide relief assistance. And no Red Cross or relief organization is currently helping on the ground.
All donated funds will help provide these two congregations and neighboring communities with food, shelter, clothing, medicine, and other daily essentials and supplies.
Through tears, I ask you to please, please give what you can to help. People are traumatized and hurting. No amount is too small. You'd be amazed just how far your gift can go to change lives. Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion.
