Helping Veronick Get Through Cancer Treatments and Surgery

Donation protected
My name is Veronick Roy, and I'm battling colorectal cancer. I'm asking for financial help to help me get through the next few months of treatments and surgery, as I have run out of disability through my work. I have no income coming in, and I just got news from my medical team that the radiation and chemotherapy treatments I have been through since October, shrunk my tumor, but that there is still cancer there and I will need to get operated very soon.

It's very disappointing and as a single mother, I'm so stressed and worried about taking care of my bills, rent and groceries for me and my 16 year old son. I pray that I can have enough money to support us for the next 5 months to give myself a chance to heal and get back on my feet. I would absolutely appreciate the help, though it is so hard asking for it. Thank you for your support and prayers!

A little bit about me

I'm 39 years old, living on the East Coast of Canada with my son and 3 cats. I'm a Christian woman, an artist, a foodie, a geek (I love comic books, anime, fantasy, sci-fi, action adventures, role playing games, conventions, video games, board games etc), a lover of nature and animals, music, history, cultural stuff. I am super easy to get along with, being an extrovert, I make friends easily. I work a customer Service job, and do freelance art and graphic design on the side.

I started feeling sick in November 2022, though I didn't know at the time what was wrong with me. I was going through a massive burnout and depressive episode. I started getting more and more fatigue, and having issues with my digestive tract. Rectal bleeding began and persisted for months. I thought it was just something like hemorrhoids, and didn't think much of it, until it had been a few months and it seemed to be getting worst. So I made an appointment at the clinic to get it checked out. The doctor couldn't see anything explaining the bleeding. I said whatever it is, is coming from further in and I want to get it looked at. So I got and appointment for a colonoscopy, and it was there that they found my tumor.

It was at Stage 2A, meaning it is in deep tissue, but not yet reaching my lymph nodes. The tumor was 8cm, and located in the Sigmoid Colon. I began Radiation therapy, and oral Chemotherapy in October 2023. I did that for 6 weeks. Then I started IV chemotherapy, every 4 weeks, while taking oral chemo on treatment days for 3 weeks at a time. I did 5 rounds of chemo. It was awful.

So last week I had my post treatment MRI and colonoscopy with biopsy, to determine if I responded to the treatment plan. The tumor has shrunk significantly, however there is still cancer present. That means they need to operate and remove the affected part of my colon. The surgeon told me that there will be 3 surgeons working together on me. They'll attach the healthy colon to the rectum, and while that heals, I will need a colostomy bag for 3 to 4 months. When it's healed, they'll do a smaller surgery to remove the bag and close the hole. I may need to go through more chemotherapy afterwards, to make sure there are no rogue cancer cells.

I am mentally in a much better place, despite the whole ordeal I've been going through. But my body needs rehabilitation and care. I'm desperately seeking for financial help while I keep fighting this battle. I try my best to stay positive, and I'm really looking forward to being done with this and getting back to my normal life. I want to live and be healthy. There is so much I still want to do! And, I found love through all this, and I hope to get married and grow old with this man. He's been a huge support through all this, I am very blessed to have a good man.
