On June 24th, my family and I took a meaningful trip to Denver, CO to spread my sister Megan’s ashes. On June 26th (day before our trip was to end), we traveled to Estes Park to one of Megan’s favorite spots. While there, my dad (Tom) slipped and was severely injured. He dislocated and fractured his right ankle in three places. He ruptured the quadriceps tendon in his left knee. That’s BOTH legs he injured. He was taken to the hospital and received surgery on both legs on June 27th. He will be confined to Colorado for an undetermined amount of time while recovering from surgery and undergoing rehabilitation. We are still undecided how we are getting him home. Once home, he will be wheelchair bound, and also cannot bend his left leg at all while the tendon heals. He will be helpless for most of recovery.

While Medicare should be able to cover most medical needs, there are so many other expenses my parents are facing. My mom is continuing to stay in a hotel out there, eat out, and Uber. If flying, my dad will need special (more expensive) accommodations for the seat. If the doctor doesn’t think he can fly, my aunt and I need to fly back out there, then rent a car to drive my dad and mom back home across country. Once home, the extra expenses that insurance doesn’t cover will quickly start to add up.

If you know my parents, then you know they are the most caring, selfless and generous people you will ever meet. Now they need your help. A little bit goes a long way. We are already so appreciative of the thoughts and prayers.
