Helping Tingjia with her fire disaster

Hi,

On behalf of the Whitewater Student Association, we would like to help fundraise for one of our students, TingJia Zhang. Below is an account from TingJia of what happened to her recently.

尊敬的学校老师和同学：

我是Tingjia Zhang, 是正就读白水大学的一名学生。在今年5月23日下午，当我正在学校上课时，接到我房主的电话，说我租的房间着火了。当时我非常焦急，马上从学校赶回家里，消防员已经封锁房子我是没办法进去的了。

大火烧了近4小时，起火源头正在我的寝室外墙，我的房间是整个房子毁坏的最严重的地方。等消防员允许我们进入房间后，眼前的一切让我感到奔溃。灭火过程中，消防员把房顶都打开了，所有灭火的化学品和水都把里面的衣服，被子，床上用品，沙化，凳子，电视机，吸尘器，电脑，孩子的玩具等等，全都被破坏了。那种大火过后的味道，尽管我如何清洗，几乎都是不可以再用了。

在这次突如其来的灾难，对我们平时并不富裕的3口之家，真是非常严重的打击。我停课了，我先生也停工了。这个是我们租来的房子，对此意外我们并没有获得任何的赔偿。失去居住的地方，失去大部分的家电衣物财务，现在我们家庭经济上非常困难。

现在我正努力陆续安顿家庭的一切，让孩子不再居无定所。并希望继续完成我的学业，但昂贵的学费是我现在无法负担的，在这里，很感谢学校的领导，给我一次筹款的机会。

Dear Teachers and Students,

My name is Tingjia Zhang, and I am a student at Whitewater University. When I was in school on the afternoon of May 23, I received a call from my landlord informing me that my rented room was on fire. When I heard the news, I immediately felt very anxious and rushed home from school. When I arrived home, the firefighters had blocked off the house and would not let me in.

When the firefighters finally let us into the house, I was devastated by what I saw. I learned that the fire had been burning for nearly 4 hours, that the source of the fire was on the outer wall of my bedroom, and that my room was the most damaged part of the entire house. What had happened was that during the process of putting out the fire, the firefighters had to open the roof, and the chemicals and water that were used to put out the fire destroyed the clothes, quilts, bedding, sofa, stools, TV set, vacuum cleaner, computers, children's toys, etc. The items I was able to save contained a smell that rendered them unusable despite my efforts to clean them.

This sudden disaster was a severe blow to my family of 3 as we do not come from a wealthy family. Without a place to live and most of our household appliances, clothing, and finances lost during the fire, my family is experiencing a challenging financial situation. I've stopped my classes, and my husband has also stopped his work. Our home was a room that we had rented, so we have not received any compensation due to this accident.

I am currently trying to settle the family so that my child has a place to live. I hope to continue and complete my studies, but the expensive tuition is not something that I can affordable now. That is why I am very grateful to the school's leadership for giving me a chance to have a fundraiser for my situation.

I am very grateful to everyone for helping me weather this unexpected event.
