Helping Tiffany after the Lahaina Wildfire
Donation protected
My sister, Tiffany Quilty, is safe but her adoptive hometown of Lahaina on the island of Maui has been devastated by a wildfire.
It appears as though her home, downtown bakery, and vehicle are all total losses.
Lahaina had a bustling downtown, not unlike Francestown, NH, where we were both raised. Or Fuquay-Varina, NC, where I call home now. All of that is gone now without warning as the result of dry conditions, high winds, and a freak firestorm. The death toll started at 6, and has risen to 106 as of 8/16. It's a miracle that she made it out safe.
Federal disaster aid is likely and the insurance process has begun. She left with her dog, Olive, and her clothes on her back and will need help until resources like that kick in.
I'm asking that you spare whatever you can so that my sister can begin the work of getting back on her feet. Thank you!
UPDATE: We hit our goal, and for that we are forever grateful. The needs continue to mount for my sister, so I'm raising our goal from $10,000 to $15,000.
I have spoken to her briefly on the phone a handful of times in the last few days. Cell coverage continues to be poor. Tiffany has secured temporary housing outside of Lahaina. The contrasts on Maui sound drastic. Whereas Lahaina has been devastated, the Starbucks and Costco up the road are operating business as usual. She is being safe, as looting remains an issue.
Accepting help is hard for my sister. Lord knows that it was hard for me to accept help when I was wounded in Iraq. She and I both are natural helpers so being on the receiving end is hard. I have assured her that friends and family stateside want to help, and wish that we could do more from afar. And that by keeping this GoFundMe open, we are giving our friends and family the opportunity to make a difference. TY!
