Hello everyone! This is Teebro and Trishita Paul, youth directors for the Junior Committee at Kids Like Us Community Learning Center. We have been connected with Kids Like Us (KLU) since 2018. Kids Like Us is a non-profit organization tailored for the special needs community and is a unique program located in the East Tennessee area. Kids Like Us believes that all children and young adults, regardless of their ability, should:
· have the same opportunity to connect with others
· be able to learn and social interact with new friends
· have a sense a belonging in the community
Many different groups have been affected by COVID-19, and one that is overlooked is the special needs community. Due to the closure of many schools and organizations, those with special needs are not able to be in an environment that will help them grow and develop the skills they need. Therefore, we want to support Kids Like Us because they are working on benefiting these children and young adults.
KLU is currently moving to a new location and has many needs as they expand the program to offer additional services to the community, some of them being Life Skills and the Workforce Development Program for those who have aged out of high school. The goal is to provide training and skill-based hands-on learning that will assist with independent living and working within the community. In addition, KLU will be offering a Before and After School Program and an Early Learning Center.
As directors of the KLU junior committee, we have taken initiative of completing the stimulated workforce grocery store, which is a part of Workforce Development and the Afterschool Program. We will finish building this grocery store that will play an important role in developing life skills, such as money management, responsibility, social skills, and prioritizing necessities. The goal of this grocery store is to create a realistic setting similar to that of a real grocery store. An estimate of $5,000 is needed to finish building it. We are fundraising for KLU’s grocery store through our organization, Global Revival Services. For more information about our organization, check out our website.
We sincerely thank you for supporting us in a cause that we truly believe in. Kids Like Us has been working diligently in creating a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for those with special needs. We would love if you share your name instead of keeping it anonymous, so we can thank you.
