Helping the Zion Church of Maui now

We’ve all heard the heartbreaking news from Maui since Tuesday, August 8th, when wildfires began, wreaking widespread destruction throughout the beautiful island. Lahaina, the hardest hit, has had 2,200 structures destroyed, 86% of which were residential. Over 1400 people are in emergency evacuation centers. Housing is sparse for survivors, evacuees, first responders, and other search and recovery individuals.
The numbers and details can overwhelm us, but we know behind all of them are real people whose lives have been turned upside down by the fires. And in the midst of this tragedy we've learned of an unexpected connection between one of Calvary United Methodist Church’s Administrative Board members and a current Maui resident.
This resident, Cleo, a former co-worker of our Board member, sent a private message, sharing the need for immediate help for community members who have been displaced, lost everything they own, and most heartbreaking of all, have lost loved ones. The grief and destruction is unbearable, but for the generosity and giving spirit of surviving community members who are doing anything they can do, to provide traces of hope and help meet basic human needs for survivors.
People are without food and drink, clothing, and supplies today. The Zion Church of Maui, a small Christian church of which Cleo is a member, is doing everything it can to care for their community. The pastor’s small home has been opened to displaced families, fitting as many as they can on flat cots on the floor. Supplies are desperately needed and funds are needed for the supplies.
Calvary United Methodist Church in Mount Airy, MD has established a Go Fund Me Page for The Zion Church of Maui. Small in numbers, huge in faith and commitment to the community members they call family, they are determined to help with every ounce of resource they have. Please pray for this community, and please consider contributing to this Go Fund Me Page. Thank you, so much. God bless you, and God bless the people of Maui. Calvary United Methodist Church stands with you.
Please consider sharing this Go Fund Me request with friends and family, and on any social media that you use. We are most grateful.
