Marlon and Deborah have been serving faithfully in ministry for the last 15 years. Several years ago, they felt a strong calling to church planting, and by God’s grace, they planted The Way City Church (TWCC) in partnership with New City Fellowship, Send Network, and New City Network. TWCC launched on February 9, 2020, with over 200 people in attendance. The future looked bright, until five weeks later when the world was turned upside down by the Covid Crisis. Marlon has led the church through the pandemic, and they have relaunched in-person gathering, yet the pandemic certainly has had a profound impact on the momentum of this young and new church.
Beyond the challenges of church planting (which are hard enough in normal circumstances), Marlon and Deborah have faced unbelievable medical challenges since the Covid pandemic began. Several weeks after Covid started their son experienced a head injury from a biking accident. Shortly after, Deborah was hospitalized with pneumonia (thankfully not Covid). While in the hospital, Marlon and Deborah found out that their son, whom Deborah was pregnant with, had some significant kidney issues. Deborah gave birth to Joshua nine weeks premature, and they spent 56 days in the NICU. Since coming home, Joshua has needed subsequent surgeries to address his kidney issues. If this wasn’t enough trauma for a lifetime, Deborah was diagnosed with lung cancer a short time later. She’s receiving surgery to remove the cancer and will have a long recovery in the coming months.
In the Send Network, our first value is “family.” This means that no one is alone in the work of church planting. This means that we have a radical commitment to one another, through any challenge we may face. We are willing to support and come along each other in prayer, acts of service and even financial support when needed. We are family. We are here for each other, no matter what we may encounter.
We have been given an opportunity to demonstrate the value of family in a profound way, so we are asking for everyone to join together and help cover their out of pocket medical expenses they’ve accrued in just these last several months. Additionally, we want to provide them with some resources to help cover the inevitable expenses they will faced once their deductible starts again in January. This would be one less thing that the Yearwood would have to be stressed about during an incredibly challenging time. I know that cumulatively, if we are generous, we can cover these expenses easily. Let’s demonstrate what it means to be a family and bless the Yearwood’s!
