Helping the Stray Cats of Wake Green Park
Donation protected
As you might know, several residents have been trying to help two stray cats that have been living on WGP – one of them was clearly injured and in need of veterinary care. We have named them Denys (tuxedo) and Bernard (black cat).
After a week's hard work, we have captured them both (Denys twice!) and taken them to Fivelands for treatment and neutering, ending their reign of terror across the estate. Helen has arranged the trap we caught them in, Pauline, Justine, and Sian have driven them to the vets and provided important cat kit. Currently they are residing with us (James and Laura) with much forebearance from our own cat Hector.
Several people have asked to contribute to their vet fees, so we have set up this fundraiser. Please only contribute if you a comfortably able to do so. We have paid for their care so far and, whatever happens, we will continue to do so. However, it’s fair to say this has been an expensive exercise and we have spent approximately £1000 in 24 hours…! (Yes, we do like cats).
Denys is essentially a healthy young cat. We have paid for him to be neutered and chipped. We also had him tested for FIV and related diseases – all negative. We will take him back soon for his vaccines. We have spent £287 on him so far.
Bernard is more complex. He has a serious leg fracture that can only be treated with amputation and he has tested positive for FIV. If his treatment was successful, he would have to live as an indoor cat and as the only cat in the household. We have also had him neutered and paid for x-rays. We have spent £700 on him so far and have been quoted £1.7k for surgery. To be honest, the vet also suggested we consider putting him to sleep even though he is otherwise healthy.
We want to do what is best for them (and we’re not entirely sure what that is!), but we will share any and all vet bills and will keep you updated on their progress.
