On December 31, 2025, the last day of the year when everyone is supposed to be getting ready to celebrate a New Year, looking forward to a fresh start, David Perks' two oldest daughters, Kyden and Cayman Perks, were in an ATV accident.
Kyden was airlifted from the scene to Hattiesburg at Forrest General Hospital while her sister Cayman was being transported to the same hospital by a Pafford unit, with David following behind.
Not knowing the full extent of injuries or what was going to happen next, Kyden went into surgery on her right leg. The accident left her leg degloved and bone exposed. She now has an incision from her ankle to her knee that wraps around her upper calf. She has a long road to recovery, praying the surgery doesn't require her to have any skin grafts in the future.
Cayman has sprained injuries to her leg as well and is expected to make a full recovery.
Their little sister Emily was not involved in the accident but worries about her big sisters!
We are praying for this entire family. David and Kyden both will miss time from work, which will cause a huge loss of income to pay bills, buy groceries, and pay medical bills, and so on. We all know how difficult it is on a regular day, much less having an accident that involves not only one but two of your children. The family has suffered immense loss these past few years, and David struggles to hold everything together while working and taking care of the girls on top of it all. David does have a job but will likely miss some days from work, which will set him behind. As you all know, David is also the chief at Clermont Volunteer Fire Department, not to mention volunteering in other community projects. Kyden follows in her dad's footsteps as a volunteer firefighter. This day, the girls were just trying to spend quality time with one another when tragedy struck, injuring both girls.
I come to you, our community, asking to give back and help David and the girls so we can help ease this incoming financial burden and they can heal without the added stress.
The Sea Coast Echo will be doing a story on the accident as well, so please look out for their story! Remember to be kind and pay it forward!
