On September 23, the Fawn Fire ripped through Shasta County and left several families displaced and not knowing if they would have a home to come home to.
Bonnie and Jim Palmer have been a staple in our local foster care community for over 30 years. They have loved and cared for over 600 foster children in their home. Bonnie’s home was “home” to many and everyone knew the door was always open and they would be greeted with one of Bonnie’s infamous warm hugs and beautiful smile. Kids who did not have families of their own, would come back in their adulthood for holidays and other family gatherings. Unfortunately, during the Fawn Fire, they were not able to go back to their home to pack up their pictures, family heirlooms, and other priceless items, they lost it all. When you walked into Bonnie’s home you would find pictures of children who had been placed in her home over the years along with pictures of all of their family and friends, all those pictures are now gone.
Bonnie and Jim are now retired, and are living on a fixed income. They have always been there to help others and now it is our time to help them.
We would like to help them rebuild their home, so former foster youth, friends and family have a place to come home to and continue to rebuild a legacy they are so well known for.
