We’re reaching out on behalf of a family who would never ask for this themselves.

Derek has recently been diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and is now preparing for a bone marrow transplant, with his procedure fast approaching on April 30 in Calgary at the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. He is currently undergoing treatment and is unable to work during this process. In an incredible act of love, one of his daughters is a match and didn’t hesitate to step forward as his donor.

Anyone who knows Derek knows the kind of person he is—quick with a joke, genuinely kind-hearted, and a devoted husband and father. He’s also a hardworking tradesman with many talents and a strong will to match, someone who takes pride in what he does and shows up for the people around him.

True to who he is, Derek would never ask for help like this. That’s why we’re doing it for him.

As he continues this fight, both Derek and his wife will be unable to work, along with the added costs of travel, accommodation, and daily living expenses during their time in Calgary for treatment. The financial pressure is significant, especially with the timeline moving quickly, and it comes at a time when their focus needs to be entirely on his recovery and their family.

This fundraiser is simply a way for the community to come together and support someone who has given so much of himself to others.
