My name is Jessica Mills, and I am organizing this fundraiser for the Munoz family.

Our families became friends after Marco, Sandra, and their boys moved to Ohio. Their sons, Ayden and Anthony, attend Liberty Benton with my children, and over the past few years our families have become close friends. Through that friendship, I have had the privilege of getting to know Marco as a devoted husband, an incredible father, and one of the kindest, most genuine people you could ever meet.

Watching everything this family has been through has been heartbreaking. Sandra has carried so much while caring for Marco and raising their boys, and now they are facing a future no family should have to face alone.

I created this fundraiser because I want to help ease some of the financial burden on Sandra and the boys during this incredibly difficult time. Every donation, every share, and every kind word means more than you know.

Helping The Munoz Family Through the Unthinkable

Marco Munoz was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in June 2018 and has fought with everything he has. In February 2020, just as the world was shutting down during COVID, his cancer spread to his lungs, and still, he kept fighting. For 8 years, through endless treatments, painful setbacks, and devastating uncertainty, Marco has never stopped being present for the people he loves most.

He is 40 years old. He is a husband to Sandra and the father of 3 boys, Alex (16), Ayden (12), and Anthony (8). His family is from Mexico City, and Marco has carried that heritage with pride. He is bilingual, warm, and the kind of man who makes everyone around him feel at home no matter where he is. 3 years ago, the family relocated from California and put down roots in Findlay, Ohio, where they found community and faith at St. Michael’s Church, a place that has been a source of strength through some of their darkest days.

Marco is the kind of person who can walk into any room and find a way to make you smile or laugh, no matter what he is carrying himself. His greatest joy has always been simple, time with his family. His sons don’t just have a dad. They have a best friend. Ayden and Anthony, who attend Liberty-Benton School in Findlay, are growing up with their dad’s laugh, his warmth, and his heart. Alex, his eldest, carries that same love from Mexico City, where he lives with his mother, connected across distance by a bond only a father and son know. For 8 years, even while fighting for his life, Marco never let any of them see anything but love.

Marco has been given 1 month to live.

Because of his illness, Marco has not been able to work for years. Sandra has carried this family emotionally, financially, and in every way imaginable while also watching her husband suffer and raising their boys who need her. She has done it all with grace.

Adding to their hardship, Marco never had the opportunity to obtain life insurance. He was diagnosed with cancer at just 32 years old, before he was able to secure a policy, and after that, his cancer became a preexisting condition that made obtaining coverage impossible. There will be no life insurance to help Sandra and the boys after he is gone.

Now she is facing the unimaginable, losing her partner, raising their boys alone, and carrying the weight of years of medical bills, end of life expenses, and an uncertain financial future. She shouldn’t have to face what comes next alone.

Any contribution, no matter the size, goes directly to supporting Sandra and the boys through this impossible time. Marco wants to be cremated so his family can take him everywhere with them. That one wish says everything about the kind of man he is. Always there, always close, never gone.
