On July 2nd, 2021, Mikaela was admitted at Sickkids hospital complaining about a painful headache and vomiting. After having an MRI ran, they discovered a large tumor causing a brain bleed and hydrocephalus. She was quickly rushed into the ER for surgery.

 

Previously, Mikaela had been complaining about headaches for months. Her mother would take her back and forth to the hospital pleading with doctors to consider taking a CT scan of her brain because the headaches continued getting progressively worse. Her concerns were brushed off and she was sent home with ear drops for an ear infection.

 

Fast forward to today - Mikaela has just undergone a 12 hour surgery on October 8th removing 95% of the tumor (still to be tested) and is currently being sedated until Tuesday.

 

Claire and Eugene are amazing parents to Mikaela (6 years old) and her two younger bothers Gabriel (3 years old) and Nathaniel (18 months). They have put up such a strong front for their family during such a difficult time even through the pandemic.

 

I have set up this GoFundMe to help their family with bills, groceries, and child care necessities  as they are both currently on leave from work to take care of both Mikaela in the hospital and their two toddlers at home.
