Ariana was diagnosed with what started off as an ear infection, that wouldn’t seem to go away. She was seen by her doctor 5 times in the matter of just 3 weeks, they kept switching antibiotics to try to cure the infection. Ariana was taken back to her doctor on Monday when a pocket of fluid developed behind her ear. The doctor sent her home and told her parents that an ENT would call them to set up an appointment to get tubes put in her ears. The ENT called Tuesday morning and directed them to take her to ER immediately.
Once they arrived at CHKD, Ariana was admitted and had emergency surgery to the place the tubes in her ears. The surgery was a success and they were set to go the following day. The medical team and CHKD decided to do a precautionary MRI to make sure the infection had not spread further than her ears. Once the results were in, her parents were notified that indeed the infection had spread to her skull and they needed to perform surgery to remove the infected parts of her skull.
Once out of surgery the her parents were told that the infection was actually larger than they thought going in and also spread to her brain. Ariana will be left on a ventilator overnight to allow her brain to rest.
The Masino’s will now be calling CHKD their temporary home for AT LEAST the next 3 weeks while Ariana receives around the clock antibiotics through IV to ensure the infection in her brain is treated properly.
Ariana is the middle child of two other sisters who will now be staying with family while she is at CHKD. Her mom is unable to work due to her being epileptic and Dad will be taking a temporary leave of work to be with his wife and daughter.
With so many extra expenses coming their way, any little bit would help!
