My name is Dan Griesbaum, Jr. and I am a baseball coach in the Grosse Pointe communities. I am asking for support of a fellow baseball coach and his family during a difficult time. If you have any questions related to this matter, please feel free to message me any time and I would be happy to assist, on behalf of the family.
On New Year’s Day, January 1, 2026, Rhea Kozlowski was rushed to the hospital after experiencing several days of severe stomach pain. A CT scan revealed a large mass in her colon, and she immediately underwent emergency surgery. The surgery was successful, and doctors removed the mass along with a portion of her colon and bowel.
Rhea spent five days at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe, where she underwent additional testing.
Her MRI of the abdomen and CT scan of the lungs both came back clear. After an agonizing wait, Rhea received her biopsy results on January 12 and was diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer.
Rhea is a devoted mother of six children—Brayden (17), Owen (15), Kylie (14), Liam (12), Camden (5), and Evelyn (4 months). She is also a dedicated teacher who has served the Grosse Pointe community for eight years and a loving wife to her husband, Phil Kozlowski, Head Baseball Coach at Grosse Pointe North, with whom she has shared 19 years of marriage.
While this news was devastating for Rhea and her family, there was also some encouraging information. The cancer was contained and had not spread to other organs. Of the 29 lymph nodes removed, only four tested positive, and doctors have said this is not an aggressive form of cancer and is considered curable.
Rhea will begin chemotherapy in early February, with treatment lasting six months. After chemotherapy, she will remain off treatment for an additional six months and will then undergo annual scans for the next five years to monitor her recovery.
Due to her treatment, Rhea will be out of work for an extended period of time. Phil will also need to significantly reduce his work hours to care for Rhea and their children during this incredibly challenging time. As a result, the family is facing mounting medical bills, lost income, and everyday expenses, including school and after-school activities.
This GoFundMe has been created to help ease the financial burden so the Kozlowski family can focus on what matters most—Rhea’s treatment, recovery, and their children.
Any donation, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated. If you are unable to give, please consider sharing this page and keeping Rhea and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you for your kindness, support, and generosity.
