We are a group of concerned teenagers from all over the country, and we have a goal -- to do our part in the nationwide fight against food insecurity.

At the beginning of the pandemic, we realized that Covid-19 is disproportionately affecting the less fortunate in our communities. Food insecurity is one of the greatest problems this nation faces, and it has only been exacerbated by the effects of Covid-19. Food banks are closing; countless breadwinners of low-income families are being laid off at rapid rates; students are not receiving lunches at school; and food banks that are open have mile-long lines. Check out a San Diego food drive with over 1000 cars lined up below, for example. And because of the pandemic, we can’t host physical food drives. But we want to help, and Covid, among many other obstacles, will not stop us.

First, we emptied our piggy banks, but barely had enough money to help two families. Next, we explored hosting physical food drives, but the pandemic made that impossible.

Finally, we decided on another approach. We thought, planned, brainstormed, ran up against brick walls, started over, and formed Helping the Hungry Virtually (HTHV). We have a plan.

Our goal is to match those who need short-term assistance with generous, philanthropic people and organizations that are willing and able to contribute financially. As we receive donations, all proceeds pay for grocery e-gift cards to help families in need. The success of this plan depends on people like you. We need your help.

Through communication with social service organizations and local elementary school administrators, HTHV has sent grocery gift cards to almost 40 families in San Diego! This is just the beginning for HTHV.

We established HTHV branches in Philadelphia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and more. We've located dozens of more families in need.

For one family, the father and breadwinner of the household was gunned down, leaving the family with emotional trauma and without a steady income during these already difficult times. Another single mother of three children has been laid off and is struggling to put food on the table for her children. If a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, it is our responsibility as members of our communities to help.

For each HTHV donation to a specific branch, we make sure that funding goes to help a family in your city. You can make a huge difference for a family in need in your community -- one trip to the grocery store at a time.

Food banks and individuals are under heavy stress during the pandemic. We would like to alleviate this tension to whatever extent we are able, so that we can see the most benefit for the food banks, families in need, our communities, and this nation as a whole.

We request funds as soon as possible because the more time passes, the more families need help. Thank you for your time and consideration!
