As many of you know, our dad, Bill, is preparing to undergo liver and possible kidney transplant this summer. The last several months have been a whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, hospitalizations, and whiplash emotions.
Jill and Bill have handled it with the grace everyone knows them for. Somehow they still manage to keep all of us (their kids) in check, visit with friends, and even catch grandkids’ soccer games when my dad is up for it.
So many of the people in our village have reached out asking how they can help during this difficult time. While we are grateful and fortunate for the benefits provided by health insurance, and yet, there are so many additional costs associated with this process.
The surgery and all of my dad’s care is at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in the city. We would love to be able to support my mom by offering her the option for easy transportation back and forth (Uber/Lyft), support for the city hotel stays when it’s too late or tenuous to go back home (they will have to stay nearby the hospital for quite awhile after surgery), and funding the many takeout meals necessitated by all families with loved ones in the hospital.
If you are wondering or have already reached out about a way to help, supporting this part of the process is a wonderful one. If you aren’t able to support in this way, know that we feel your love, support, and prayers. We are so grateful to our village of family and friends as we navigate this season!
