Helping the Herberts
Donation protected
This Journey started in September of 2021 and the campaign has recently been rebooted due to another Year of treatments that resumed in Jan 2023.
My name is Sarah Finn and I have the honor of being neighbors with the Herbert family. Five years ago this beautiful, amazing family moved in next door. Since then, we have shared laughs and made many memories. I am so thankful this precious family decided to move from Sterling, Massachusetts to Ocean Springs, MS .
I have set up this fundraiser for Kristina Herbert, the mother of four beautiful children : Vanessa (16) Hawley (13) Samantha (11) , Blake (10), wife to Justin. I hope that this page will bring an outpouring of love and financial support to help with medical and household expenses for the Herbert family while mom and dad are away at MD Anderson being treated for an aggressive form of Leukemia. Kristina unfortunately had to resign from her job with Ocean Springs School District. Justin works for Michelin North America . He is trying to continue to work remotely from MD Anderson while supporting his wife. They have had grave financial impacts overnight.
On Monday, September, 20 Kristina was being treated for what they thought was a urinary tract infection.....by Wednesday, she was diagnosed with Leukemia. She immediately needed platelet transfusions and had an extremely enlarged spleen. Once the local Oncologist conducted testing to confirm that it was Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia , also known as ALL, they immediately decided to transfer her to MD Anderson . Testing has shown that the bone marrow and lymph nodes were greatly affected by leukemia.
As you can imagine, this was extremely unexpected, and the four sweet beautiful children have had their world turned upside down overnight. Justin's parents immediately drove in to care for the children. Kristina's parents have started the process to move from Massachusetts to help care for the children as well.
There is also a meal train established that is helping the grandparents feed the children in between the afternoon rush and shuffle of four children to the many after school activities.
We want to help do everything in our power to lessen the stress for this family so they can focus on Kristina's treatment, recovery and the children . NO ONE should have finances be a concern when you are fighting for yourself and your children.
Treatment Plan
Kristina's treatment will last 25 months. During this 25 month timeframe they will have several long term stays in Houston and make the trip many, many times.
The treatment over the next 4-6 months is very delicate and crucial . Kristina and Justin will be Staying in Houston until at least Thanksgiving. The next 28 days will be in-patient treatment and then 14 days of outpatient care. They are currently looking for outpatient housing specifically for Leukemia patients . This housing is 700.00 a week but will ensure the sanitation, air purification and other necessary means to ensure Kristina is in a safe environment. She will constantly receive chemo through her port even when she is not at the hospital.
Let's do our best to help support this beautiful family! No amount is too small! Please give as you can to help this beautiful family.
