Helping the helpers - Steve & Diane Sullivan
Donation protected
They've spent my entire life helping others, and now I'm here to ask for help for Steve and Diane Sullivan. On the morning of Wednesday, February 3rd Mom's heart stopped. We caught a break because my Dad happened to be home from work that morning. Through a true miracle he was able to revive her and call 911. Cardiologists have said that Mom was extremely lucky to have survived, and were able to place a pacemaker and get her home to my Dad within days. But on Sunday, February 14th we got a call from Dad saying he wasn't feeling well. We rushed him to the ER and he was diagnosed with COVID pneumonia. At the prompting of an ER nurse, we brought Mom into the ER immediately. She also tested positive for COVID and was admitted. By 11 p.m., the couple who are approaching their 50th anniversary found themselves in a 'honeymoon suite' at HCMC (which is to say they were put into a quarantine recovery room together).
We still are uncertain what medical bills they will be facing, but a pacemaker and a hospital stay for two is going to add up (and I'm certain insurance won't give us a 2-4-1 on the room). I'm pursuing channels for food/medical help that I'm certain they will need while healing and gaining strength. During this time I want help eliminate as much worry as possible. This fundraiser ask is to help offset my Dad's lost wages and my parents mounting medical expenses they will face together.
As I mentioned, I've grown up watching my parents live a life of service. They volunteer for church fundraisers, Legion fundraisers, 4-H fundraisers, give to girl scouts, help boy scouts, spend time at Veterans Hospitals around the country, lead countless parades, serve as color guard, drive awareness and funds for Brain Science & the Legacy Fund AND NEVER EVER ASK FOR ANYTHING FOR THEMSELVES. As the American Legion family (and anyone who's ever met them) knows, Sully and Di are always giving their time, spending countless hours volunteering, driving innumerable miles for fundraising, and helping every Veteran they encounter. They wouldn't have it any other way. It's who they are.
As their daughter, I struggle with asking for help as well and there's no doubt they would try to manage this all on their own, but I'm here to ask for your help. I'm praying the many family members, friends, Brothers and Sisters who have laughed and worked with them will answer this call for help. My sincere hope is to offset expenses that are coming as a direct result of medical care due to COVID19. Anything you may be able to contribute would be a blessing.
Let's "fill the tank!" Maybe we can get Sully to take his 'cry towel' out of retirement when we celebrate achieving our goal. Thank you.
