Helping the Goodsell’s

Mary’s difficult journey started 4 years ago when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that she was told would not go into remission, and breast cancer.  Doctors were able to remove her breast cancer, but her battle with lung cancer would be an everlasting fight.

For those that know Mary, you know her as a strong, opinionated, sassy, loyal, amazing woman.  Thankfully, she has remained this same woman throughout her battle.  If you were lucky enough to earn her trust and make it to her “inner circle” it almost felt like royalty.  She became a part of our family(officially) in 2008 and we quickly realized how incredibly blessed we were.

Mary’s warrior mentality got her through the first 3 years of her battle and you would have never known she was sick.  She remained the same spunky, vibrant Mary that we knew even while going through chemo treatments and dealing with her daily struggles.

Last year, Mary started having some pain in her right leg.  She went in and was advised that her cancer had spread to her femur bone.  While this was devastating to Mary and all of us that love her, she remained hopeful and kept her warrior mentality.

In September, we started to notice that things were changing again.  Mary started retaining fluid in her abdomen and ankles that caused a lot of pain and she was not feeling well.  Since then, up until about a week ago, Mary had been in the hospital 5 times and has had several liters of fluid removed each week from her abdomen.  We found out that this was due to her being in end stage cancer related cirrhosis.  Her liver shutting down also created a lack of kidney functionality.  After watching her continue to suffer through this, the decision was made to bring Mary home and start comfort care for her until she decides to leave this earth.

We have found ourselves praying for a miracle over the few weeks, hoping that we would find a way to help Mary get better and stay with us longer.  What we have come to realize is that our miracle was the last 4 years we had with her.  For a long while after she got sick, you would have never known it.  She woke up each day as the warrior she has been her entire life and found a way to live each day to it’s fullest.

As these things happened incredibly quick, sometimes we aren’t able to financially plan to cover these types of costs.  This GoFundMe is to assist Robert and Mary with any medical or other expenses that arise so that this time is spent with quality time with Mary and not have worries of financial burden.

Thank you so much for everyone who has reached out, visited, and sent their love.  Mary has truly appreciated each and every one of you and so has our family ❤️
