Helping the Garay-Ruiz Family
Five years ago Wendy Ruiz's husband, Alex Garay, was diagnosed with Peritoneal Mucinous Carcinomatosis (PMCA), a rare type of Appendix Cancer. At the time, he underwent Cytoreductive Surgery, nicknamed MOAS (mother of all surgeries), to remove the cancerous tumor and at the same time, received a form of direct liquid chemotherapy. Unfortunately, in April of this year, it was confirmed that some of the leftover cancer cells have caused tumors to grow in his abdomen.
He is currently undergoing testing to determine the best course of treatment but it will certainly include another Cytoreductive Surgery and at least one follow-up surgery three months after. In the best-case scenario, Alex can return to a similar lifestyle about six months after surgery and return to work within a year. During that time, however, Alex will not be able to work or help support his family.
We would like to support Wendy and her family during these difficult times. Wendy and Alex have three children, Alexander, Anna, and Benny. Anna and Benny are both students at TRIS. Please consider making a gift to help them navigate the journey that lies ahead.
Wendy and her family thank you in advance for all the support coming their way and for all the support they have already received. They know they are not alone.
*Edit: Thank you so much to those who have already contributed. Your kindness and generosity are truly heartwarming to see. Wendy has expressed how deeply appreciative she and her family are because of your support. We have increased the donation goal so that those who would like to donate will still feel like they can.
