Isaac’s Medical Journey

As most of you know, Stephanie and Trent welcomed their second son, Isaac Ray Elam, into the world on April 30, 2019. Shortly after giving birth, baby Isaac had to be taken to the NICU for low blood sugar and trouble breathing. He was given an IV to help his blood sugar return to a normal level and had to wear a CPAP to help with his breathing. It seemed as if Isaac was improving every day with these two things, but they received news on Monday, May 6, 2019 that Isaac has the same condition as his big brother, Bryce, Hypopituitarism. This news came to them as a complete shock. Although this is a journey they are familiar with when it comes to doctor’s appointments, medications, and insurance companies, it doesn’t make the road ahead easy.

During Isaac’s first year of life, he cannot take a growth hormone with preservatives. The one he requires is $1200 a month. Because of their previous experience with Bryce, Stephanie and Trent know insurance will deny this medication for Isaac even though they have an MRI to prove his condition of Hypopituitarism and the recommendation from their Endocrinologist is to avoid preservatives. This is a huge expense to any family, especially a new family of four. The Elam’s are extremely strong and have such a positive outlook on this new journey with Isaac, but know the expense of this medication will be difficult for them each month to ensure Isaac is given the medication he needs to continue to grow safely.

Our goal is to raise money for the Elam Family and Isaac’s medical journey during his first year of life in order to relieve some of the financial burden this will place on their family.
