We’re putting this fundraiser together for our beloved Papa Moku and Nancy Chandler, whose home was flooded and badly damaged during Hurricane Lowell. My name is Ilikea Kamalani, and I am their niece. I created this GoFundMe to help support them through the difficult process of recovering and rebuilding.

Right now, their home is not livable, and they’re having to navigate what comes next while dealing with the loss and damage to the place they call home. It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to suddenly not be able to go home and have so much of your everyday life turned upside down.

The funds raised will go directly toward helping Mema and Papa recover from the damage, including cleaning and removing damaged items, repairing their home, replacing essential belongings that were lost or ruined in the flooding, and covering other necessary expenses to make their home safe and livable again.

I will be managing the funds on their behalf and making sure the donations are used toward their recovery. Funds will either be sent directly to Mema and Papa as expenses come up or used on their behalf to pay for repairs, materials, replacement items, cleanup, and other recovery-related costs.

We also understand that the hurricane has affected so many families and that everyone is going through something of their own right now. Anything helps, whether that’s a donation, sharing this fundraiser, or simply keeping the Chandler ʻOhana in your thoughts.

Kauaʻi has always been a place where people show up for each other, especially when times are hard. We are incredibly grateful for every bit of love and aloha being shown to this family and to everyone affected.
